Gratitude feels like the juice of life. When I truly experience it – whether for a person, a moment or something simple – it opens a part of my heart that may have been quietly sleeping. Suddenly everything appears to be of a brighter hue, I feel my spirit lifting, and I begin thinking of the things in my life that are already so good. I realize that I’m part of something greater, and that everything and everyone around me is part of it too. I notice that any feelings of unease begin to soften.
I feel most alive when I’m observing some beautiful place – this may be a breathtaking landscape – or just a captivating image, the playful antics of my cat, or children playing happily. I just feel, wow – how blessed I am to be here, in this body, able to take it all in. It feels like a direct infusion of joy.
I once heard someone say that every day we receive love letters from the unseen. Gratitude helps me to notice them – maybe it’s a single ray of sun breaking through the clouds – and truly open them. And in doing so, I realize it was exactly what I needed in that moment. It reminds me that I am loved, deeply appreciated and completely supported in all that I do.
